Ordinary contrails form when aircraft exhaust mixes with cold air and water condenses or freezes. They may disappear quickly or persist and spread depending on atmospheric humidity and winds. Contrails affect climate, but their appearance alone does not demonstrate a secret mass-spraying programme.
